CASA Academy Overview

As we look ahead, we are building on the success of our current campus while preparing for our next chapter of growth. In August 2027, our second campus, CASA Academy Horizon, will expand access to our proven model, bringing a rigorous, college-bound education and strong character development to even more scholars and families within our community. Our continued growth is grounded in a simple belief: every child deserves access to an excellent education, regardless of their zip code or family income.

Today, 98% of our scholars qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 77% are English Language Learners, and 97% are students of color. Our model combines rigorous academics, a college-bound culture, exceptional teachers, character development, and an extended school day to help scholars achieve more than a year’s worth of academic growth in a single year.

A Proven Foundation

Our story began in 2012, when founders Jenna Leahy and Tacey Clayton Cundy met as teachers and connected over the inequities they witnessed in their classrooms. Determined to create a better option for Phoenix families, they joined forces and spent over a year researching high-performing schools across the country, visiting more than 50 schools to identify practices that could help close the achievement gap. Their efforts secured more than $950,000 in start-up funding, and CASA’s charter application was unanimously approved in January 2014.

After months of knocking on neighborhood doors and connecting with families throughout the community, CASA Academy opened with a record number of scholars in August 2014. More than a decade later, that original vision has become a proven K–8 school and the foundation for what comes next. CASA Academy Horizon represents an opportunity to build on what we have learned, accomplished, and built over the past decade and extend our impact to more scholars.

We know what is possible when scholars are given the opportunity, support, and belief they deserve. Our next chapter is about making that possibility a reality for even more children—ensuring that every scholar who walks through our doors leaves with the knowledge, character, and confidence to shape a future beyond what they may have imagined.
